The situation
A renovation contractor serving the GTA had no Google Maps visibility. Multi-municipality service businesses face a structural problem in local search: proximity is a ranking factor, and a contractor with one address cannot be close to searchers in twelve municipalities at once. A business in this position competes against local operators who are physically nearer to the searcher in every one of those markets.
What we found
Contractors serving wide areas usually have one page listing every city they cover. That page ranks for none of them, because it offers Google no evidence of genuine relevance to any specific municipality beyond a name in a list.
What we did
The Google Business Profile was optimised for service across 12 GTA municipalities, with service areas and categories set to match the work actually offered in each. Service area pages were built for those markets, and a review pipeline was established so prominence keeps accruing in the places where proximity cannot be won.
Service area pages only work when each one says something real about the market it targets. A page that swaps the city name into an otherwise identical template produces twelve near-duplicate pages and no ranking improvement anywhere.
The results
Map views grew 240%.
Map views are the leading indicator for a service area business. They register before calls and direction requests move, because they measure how often the profile is being surfaced at all. Rising map views mean the profile is now entering consideration in markets where it previously did not appear.
What this means for your business
Proximity is the one local ranking factor nobody can optimise. Prominence and relevance are how a multi-municipality contractor competes anyway. That is the substance of our home services SEO work.
